Here is a portion of a letter from the Forest Service, and a link to the site with more information on their proposal to implement an Integrated Pest Management program in the Eldorado National forest.
The Eldorado National Forest proposes to implement an Integrated Pest Management approach to eradicate or control infestations of non-native invasive plants on the Eldorado National Forest. The proposed action would utilize a range of mechanical and chemical control measures to treat invasive plant infestations that impact natives plant communities and ecological health. the infested areas are scattered throughout the forest predominately below 6,000 feet in elevation and range in size from individual plants to the largest mapped infestation of 353 acres. More than 85 percent on the known infested areas are less than one acre.
Here is the link to a 36 page pdf document that explains everything and includes a map of the infested areas. It looks like we are just on the edge of the infested areas and what is there should be quite small. http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/nepa_project_exp.php?project=25886
See you in the mountains
Finally after an incredibly dry winter, there is snow falling now along highway 50 and the local sierra nevada mountains. Lets hope it continues Here is a look from one of the local webcams.
Sciots,
Chains are required from about 1 mile east of Kyburz. There is heavy snow falling. Lets hope this keeps up for the next 6 weeks so that we will have plenty of summer water.
see you in the mountains
A favorite view from a favorite trail, On the way to Twin Island Lakes you can look back towards Wrights Lake and get this view of a wonderful tree and the tree tops below, climb up a few hundred more feet and Wrights Lake comes into view.
Reflecions at Wrights Lake
Its a new year and its time we had an updated and relevant website. As soon as everything is up and running to my satisfaction, I will let you all know. Its my plan to set up a web cam around our cabin so we can see what the weather is like. I really want to feature photos that cabin owners have taken. Hopefully a few of you would also like to help administer this site and add news and articles to share with our community. I am including one of my favorite images from the summer on this post. I took it at Wrights Lake with my iPhone. I think it is pretty awesome.
